A couple Thursdays ago, me and comrade Israel ventured out to San Diego's Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre to catch one of coldplay's last shows from their Viva la vida tour. Eight feet from g stage, for almost two & a half hours, I was in a state of awe and inspiration, that I will never forget.
Opening with the "life in technicolor" (first track off Viva La vida) with a huge black sheer curtain at front stage, casting huge silhouettes; each member set the stage for an unforgettable evening. Followed by "Violet Hill" and "In My place", the packed house knew ever word. For the next hour, it seemed like hit, after hit. From huge video spheres, a huge fifty foot LCD screen, to massive yellow balloons, and laser lights that had to be cleared with the air enforcement, my eyes were equally as pleased as my ears.
"Hardest Part" was one of my highlights of the set; much different from the full band arrangement on X&Y, consisted of just Christ Martin and Piano. I've never experienced such a nostalgic feeling from a song at a show, during the song everything from my first kiss to my first love flooded through my mind; and all i could think is how much I wanted a recording of it. to my pleasure, it was one of a nine track cd they gave to everyone later that night. (coldplay once again proved to be one of the smartest bands out there in the mainstream market. they realize record sales are down, what do they do? give 15,000 people , who just experienced an amazing show, after the steep ticket price, a FREE live full length album = loyal fans, who will tell everyone they know. genious.)
"Viva la vida" and "yellow" were also some of the main highlights of the evening, the energy from the stage streamed right into the crowd, as everyone sang a long to every word, and chant.
This was the first show in a long time, where the crowd sang a long to every word. You don't see this anymore in the States. For the first time in a while, i forgot about everything, and was completely emerged in something amazing for 2 hours. The expensive ticket price was well worth, and I highly reccomend everyone to see Coldplay at least once in your lifetime.
